Matty Cash Rated by English Media Following Brentford Return

Matty Cash returned to Unai Emery's starting line-up as Aston Villa were held to a 2-2 Premier League draw against Brentford at Villa Park. Brentford took an early lead through Yehor Yarmoliuk in the 10th minute before Nicolas Jackson equalised for Villa. John McGinn then fired the hosts ahead in the 77th minute, but Kristoffer Ajer levelled just two minutes later.

The 29-year-old right-back completed the entire 90 minutes, marking his first start for Villa in over a month—an important step tracked across his overall career statistics.

How the English Media Assessed Matty Cash

Local and national outlets took note of Cash's physical commitment as well as the inevitable lack of match sharpness after weeks away from the starting XI:

• Birmingham Mail (Rating: 6/10): The newspaper commended Cash for his duel on the flank against Brentford winger Kevin Schade, observing that he dealt well with the threat and stopped him in most duels. They also noted his combative approach, which resulted in a yellow card following a late sliding tackle on Mathias Jensen.
• Express & Star (Rating: 6/10): Journalists underlined his visible exhaustion towards the final whistle after starting for the first time in over a month, while commending his determination, noting that despite heavy fatigue, he refused to give up and kept battling.
• astonvillanews.co.uk (Rating: 5/10): Evaluated his overall performance more critically, awarding him a 5 out of 10.

Statistical Portals and Match Ratings

Across algorithm-based performance trackers, Cash's ratings sat slightly below the Aston Villa team average (which ranged between 6.8 and 7.27):

• Sofascore: 6.6
• Flashscore: 6.2

Despite the late fatigue and disciplinary booking, completing 90 minutes provides a solid foundation for Cash as he continues his key role in Unai Emery's squad throughout his ongoing club career at Aston Villa.
